SUMMARY

Congresswoman Jahana Hayes(CT-05)seeks an experienced Legislative Assistant to join her Washington, D.C. office.The ideal candidate will have worked in a policy role on Capitol Hill for at least two years.The LegislativeAssistant will be responsible for managing a broad policy portfolio.Excellent oral and written communication skills, the ability to thrive under pressure and meetstrictdeadlines,attention to detail,and a commitment to working non-standard hours, especially when the House is in session, are essential attributes.This is not anentry-levelposition. Connecticut ties are preferred but not required. Only applicants who meet all qualifications will be considered.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Develop legislative initiatives and collaborate closely with the legislative and communications teams to advance theofficepriorities; Tracking legislation and other developments in assigned issue areas andpreparingbriefingsHousefloor, committee, in districtefforts, and outside House-relatedactivities; Monitoring legislative developments within relevantcommittees; Planning and coordinating support oflegislation; Writing floorspeeches; Acting as liaison with committee and agencystaff; Performing special projectsasassigned; Meeting with constituents andstakeholdergroups; Assisting with preparation of weekly reports; and Performing other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

This is not an entry-level position. At leasttwoyears of relevantlegislativeexperience isrequired. Applicants who do not meet these requirements will not be considered; Hard work, organization, effective time management, and ability toworkin a fast-paced and collaborativeenvironment; Analytical capabilities, excellent writing skills, attention to detail, flexibility, andcreativity; Willingness to cover a diverse issue portfolio and be responsive to varied concerns andperspectives; Expert knowledge of the legislativeprocess; Strong oral and written communications skills and ability to communicate effectively with the Congresswoman, colleagues, constituents, and external stakeholders.
