Job Title: Speech and Language Pathologist Profession: Speech and Language Pathology Specialty: Outpatient Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM Experience: 2+ years current experience License: CCC - SLP Certifications: BLS (AHA) Must-Have: Proficiency working with inpatient, outpatient, and rehabilitation patients Experience with adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients Master's or Doctorate Degree in Speech and Language Pathology Knowledge of and familiarity with rehabilitation equipment, including communication aids and wheelchairs Ability to work with minimal supervision Certification in LSVT LOUD is a bonus Previous travel experience preferred Must have own vehicle Description: The Speech and Language Pathologist evaluates, participates in diagnostic testing, and treats referred patients. They also participate as a member of the health care team. Responsibilities include providing acute, swing, and outpatient care. The population served is primarily geriatric, with opportunities to grow younger client volume. The candidate should be proficient with modified barium swallow studies and swallow therapy, along with common speech therapy treatments for aphasias, voice disorders, and cognitive therapy. Clinical practice involves assisting patients to reach their maximum performance while learning to live within their capabilities. Based on medical referral, medical records, and examinations, the therapist evaluates, sets goals, plans, and executes treatment. They report findings to other health care team members and provide discharge recommendations, exercise programs, and family teaching as appropriate. The therapist determines the need to refer patients to other diagnostic and therapeutic services. They provide accurate and timely documentation and record-keeping. Time management skills are utilized to coordinate scheduling of patients and meetings, ensuring timely treatment. Competency with patient equipment appropriate to the work setting is required. Observing and evaluating treatment effects is essential, along with recommending changes to physicians as needed. Performing appropriate assessments on each patient related to therapy requests and providing reassessments as per policy is expected. This includes evaluating neonate, pediatric, adolescent, and geriatric patients. Formulating a teaching plan based on identified learning needs and evaluating the effectiveness of learning are part of the role. Family involvement in teaching is expected when appropriate. The candidate will treat patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identifying and addressing psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and religious/spiritual needs of patients and their families is important. Managing and operating equipment safely and correctly is required, as well as maintaining department cleanliness and safety. Professional interaction with patients and families is essential, involving them in the formation of the plan of care. Appropriate communication with physicians, staff, and the administrative team is expected. Coordinating and directing patient care to ensure needs are met and hospital policies are followed is crucial. Consulting with other departments as appropriate to collaborate in patient care and performance improvement activities is part of the role.
