Eye surgeons, stem cell researchers, geneticists, infectious disease specialists and engineers are working on technologies and treatments for macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, corneal disease and cataracts as well as a vaccine to prevent eye and genital herpes infections. These efforts have vaulted UC Irvine School of Medicine into the top echelons of U.S. institutions receiving National Institutes of Health grants for vision research. Our goal is to spark innovation and continue to revolutionize patient care.Your Role on the Team The Occupational Therapist 2 (Per Diem) functions as a journey-level clinician in vision rehabilitation, responsible for providing high-quality evaluation, treatment planning, therapeutic interventions, and discharge planning for adults with low vision, profound vision loss/blindness, and/or neurological vision impairments on weekdays during normal working hours. Responsibilities include evaluating clients' abilities to perform activities of daily living (ADLs), conducting home safety/environmental assessments, and providing adaptations to enhance safety, independence, and overall occupational performance. OT interventions will primarily be delivered in home and community settings. Candidates without prior vision experience will receive mentorship and training.What It Takes to be Successful Required: Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Positive attitude and strong ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team. Excellent interpersonal skills; able to communicate effectively with clients, families, team members, and physicians. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Effective observational, analytical, and teaching skills. Completion of an accredited program of Occupational Therapy. Occupational Therapist (OT) - issued by the state of California. Minimum of three years of experience working with adults.Preferred: Post-graduate education in low vision rehabilitation. Post-graduate certification in low vision rehabilitation. Experience in low vision rehabilitation. Experience in working in an outpatient setting. Experience working with adults in an outpatient physical disabilities setting.
